Testimonials

Working as a tutor with Tutors on Wheels is a great way to better reach out and help students outside of the classroom setting, which are often overcrowded--leaving some students, who need more focused attention, behind . Being able to work with a student one-on-one means I can customize lesson planning to target the specific needs of that student. Tutors on Wheels has resources for tutors to better help students, and also allows tutors to pick students based on grade and location--which for me means I can work with flexibility in my own neighborhood! I highly recommend being a tutor with Tutors on Wheels!

- Tutor with Tutors on Wheels, Educator

We are a child welfare agency that supports families and strengthens them in the community. For over seven years, we have made sure to include in our City funded budget the wherewithal to provide tutoring services to three dozen children each year. We keep report card and City-wide testing score data and through a before and after comparison can see that for all the children there is improvement after tutoring. In many cases the results have meant a promotion for the child to the next grade.

Tutors on Wheels' staff has always been helpful and prompt in getting services started and just as concerned about and dedicated to the welfare of each one of the children we refer. Obviously we plan to keep on working with Tutors on Wheels for a long time.

My son’s science tutor bent over backwards to keep him engaged. He had my son observe and record the results of a water density experiment using a bowl, an egg, salt, sugar, and water. My son loved it.

It was agony getting John to go for math tutoring. But after a while, it seemed like he was looking forward to it. When I asked him about it, John smiled and said, ‘It’s fun.’ ‘Fine,’ I thought, ‘as long as the grades keep improving.

I failed the GED two times because I didn’t prepare enough. I got online English tutoring and science tutoring because I scored lowest on those sections. I passed on the third try.

I don’t like school, but I like Joshua, my math tutor. He knows when I get it and when I don’t, plus he knows more about computers than anyone.

I’ve always been a good student, but I was falling behind in chemistry. My parents gave me a gift of 10 online tutoring sessions. My tutor was cool --she really cared about me. I’m not getting A’s, but I’m passing. I still go to my tutor for homework help.

"I never used to talk in class. I’m better now because of my English tutor. I don’t mind being called on, and when I know an answer, I’m the first one with my hand up."
